The Wineglass Marathon has been ranked #10 on "The World's 25 Best Marathons" by The Active Times.

"A great course, enthusiastic fans and a race that's well-organized are all important aspects to a race's success." stated The Active Times. "These factors played a big role in helping us rank our list of the world's best marathons."

In the list of the top 25 marathons in the world, the Wineglass is the smallest race to receive the prestigious distinction. Others include the Boston and New York Marathons, Tokyo Marathon, Paris International Marathon and other celebrated running events from around the world.

"This is a huge honor for us to be listed 10th in the world with these internationally renowned marathons," added Mark Landin, Wineglass Marathon Co-Director. "It speaks to how much the running community values the very special experience we provide here!"

The Wineglass' increasing popularity in recent years resulted in this year's October 5th race, its 33rd year, attracting a record field of nearly 6,000 runners. The group included runners from 43 states and international participants from 8 other countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, Australia, China, Ecuador and Bulgaria.

Runners begin the scenic 26.2 mile race in Bath, NY and cross the finish at Centerway Square located on Corning's Historic Market Street. The course is noted as being one of the fastest, most well-organized in the country, and is considered a top Boston Marathon qualifier.

The Wineglass was recently named to The Active Times' listing of "The World's Best Destination Races" as well. The accolade mentioned that during time spent off the course, marathoners enjoy the surrounding natural beauty and fall foliage of the Finger Lakes region, the rich glass heritage and art scene that has shaped Corning's history, and the local wine culture that contributes to the marathon's name.

Wineglass Marathon organizers attribute the race's popularity to the support of so many volunteers and organizations that work together to make the race successful. Registration for the 2015 WineglassMarathon and Half Marathon opens December 1, 2014.
