This year's race, on Saturday, May 23, will be sponsored for the first time by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes. Now in its sixth year, the GlassFest 8K is a flat, fun and family-friendly event in downtown Corning, and is a must-do activity for many during the four-day GlassFest celebration.

"Joining as the presenting sponsor of the 8K was a great way for the Community Foundation to support GlassFest, which has become such an exciting part of our Memorial Day weekend," said Randi Hewit, president of the foundation.

The GlassFest 8K course will begin and end in Corning's War Memorial Stadium with finishers awarded handmade glass medals, made locally at Hands on Glass Studio. The race's start time is 8:30am.

Runners can register for the race online at www.wineglassmarathon.com until midnight, May 17, although early registration is encouraged.

"The 8K is a great event," added Sheila Sutton, Wineglass Marathon Race Co-Director. "We encourage runners of various talents and ages to challenge themselves with the race, and to stay and enjoy all of the other activities GlassFest has to offer!"

GlassFest weekend begins Thursday, May 21, and will run through Sunday, May 24. For more information on GlassFest, please visit www.glassfest.org.
