CORNING, NY – For 35 years runners have been taking on the 26.2 mile course from Bath to Corning that makes up the Wineglass Marathon. Known for being a fast course, many runners come with the goal of setting personal bests. A handful, of course, come with their sights set on winning and with the intention of breaking the course record. And while the Wineglass Half Marathon (the final 13.1 mile stretch of the main course from Campbell to Corning) is only in its 6th year, the 2016 race didn't disappoint, with both the men's and women's winners of the Half Marathon breaking course records, while the Full Marathon winner set a different kind of record.

It's no surprise that here in the "Cradle of Aviation," even runners fly from one location to another. While it may not have been a personal best, Half Marathon winner, Tim Chichester from nearby Wellsville blazed his way along the course at record-breaking speed setting a new course record of 1:07:24 and taking over 2 minutes off the previous record which was set in 2012 by David Bronfenbrenner.

On the women's side of the Half Marathon, it came right down to the very last few strides as Julianne Quinn—one of a contingent of runners from Ithaca taking part in the half and full marathons this year—sped around the course in 1:18:39, eclipsing the mark of 1:18:52 which she had set back in 2014 by a mere thirteen-one-hundredths of a second.

Full Marathon winner, Bryan Morseman, was only a couple minutes shy of breaking the course record in the men's full which has stood since 1997. He did set a different sort of record, though, by winning his 4th Wineglass Marathon making him the winningest runner in Wineglass History.

All four winners have local ties, as Morseman grew up in Addison while the women's Full Winner, Bailey Drewes, currently lives in Ithaca and attends Cornell University.

The weekend-long event, which celebrated its 35th year, has grown from less that three-hundred runners its first year to over 6,000 runners participating in the half and full races.
