CORNING – GlassFest is almost here, and with it comes a wide range of activities and special events, including the GlassFest 8K, organized by the directors of the Wineglass Marathon. The 4th Annual GlassFest 8K will kick off the jam-packed schedule for Saturday, May 25, with an 8:30 a.m. start time.
Presented by Corning Gorilla Glass, the GlassFest 8K has become a much-anticipated part of GlassFest weekend. There are already more than 300 Runners pre-registered, representing nine states, including Illinois and Florida. Pre-registration is encouraged by visiting www.WineglassMarathon.com, and clicking on "Other Races." The fee is $25. Race day registration will be accepted at the same rate from 7 – 8:15 a.m.
"The GlassFest 8K helps round out a wonderful weekend of events," said Sheila Sutton, co-director of the Wineglass Marathon. "We've received great support from the community, law enforcement, and the fire department to help make this another great running event."
The GlassFest 8K course will start and finish in Corning Memorial Stadium located next to East High School. The course takes runners through the Houghton Plot area before crossing the river on Centerway, then proceeding down Tioga Ave. and through Denison Park. They'll loop back around and pass by the Corning Fire Station before returning to the stadium. The course measures 8K (4.96 miles) and is quite flat. Parking is available at East High, the Corning Community YMCA, and other lots close to the stadium area. The Corning Community YMCA will allow runners to show their bib and use the showers at the YMCA following the race.
The First 600 entrants will receive a technical sleeveless GlassFest 8K shirt, and the first 600 runners will receive a glass medal made at Hands-On Glass. The award-winning finishing medals for the Wineglass Marathon and Half Marathon are also made at Hands-On Glass.
