Corning, NY – With nearly two thousand runners already registered for the 31st annual Wineglass Marathon to be run on September 30th, race organizers are excited to announce another accolade for the nationally-recognized event.

In a recent list on active.com, the Wineglass was listed as one of the top ten best qualifiers for the Boston Marathon. Over the past three decades, thousands of runners have qualified for the high-profile Boston event, many crediting the course's fair terrain and seasonable weather for runners' best times ever. The list includes a number of other well-known courses, including the Walt Disney World Marathon and Scranton's Steamtown Marathon. For the complete list, visit www.active.com.

In addition to active.com's rank, the Wineglass Marathon was recognized as a top-10 qualifier for Boston in 2011 by marathon guide.com. The race has also received a number of awards from publications such as Runner's World and Marathon & Beyond for other criteria, including the unique glass medal presented to finishers, the "schwag" given to all registered participants and the overall course speed.

Changes for the 2012 race – scheduled Sunday, September 30th – include more than just a larger field of participants. Race directors are pleased to announce a new Saturday Wineglass 5K, a short-distance running event to be held during race weekend. The 5K is expected to draw hundreds from the local communities and continue to add excitement to the marathon weekend.

Participants wishing to register for the full marathon, half marathon and 5K are now able to do so by visiting www.wineglassmarathon.com.
