Wineglass Half Marathon Fills to Capacity

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

The Wineglass Half Marathon closed to new registrants on Monday with a record field of 3,400 runners. The October 2nd race marks the sixth year of the 13.1 mile distance in the Wineglass Race Series and has grown in popularity every year. The half marathon course route runs from Campbell-Savona High School to a finish at Centerway Square in Corning.

"Runners love the course which is flat, fast, and scenic and the finish line on Market Street is a real runner favorite," said Race Director Sheila Sutton. "We also hire pacers for the half so participants can have experienced runners helping them achieve their goal times."

This year's half marathon field hails from 43 states and 5 countries, reinforcing the growing image of the Wineglass as a nationally known destination race. The popularity and growth of the Wineglass Half Marathon attracted the attention of a major local employer this year. Dresser-Rand A Siemens Business debuts as the Wineglass Half presenting sponsor this year.

Doug Rich, General Manager, Painted Post Operations & Director, Reciprocating Products Worldwide, called it "truly a first class affair and a gem for our community." Referencing Dresser-Rand's Painted Post operation's 120 year history in the valley, Rich added, "We place great importance on our relationships with the communities in which we live and work. The weekend has become a cornerstone event in our region, and we can be proud of how the Wineglass portrays our valley and its people to visitors around the country."

An online wait-list is up and running via www.wineglassmarathon.com's registration site. If registered runners defer their entry into 2017, runners from the wait list will be offered slots.

Registration for the 35th running of the Wineglass Marathon is still open with 600 slots remaining. Entry fees for that race will increase on May 1, 2016.
