Painted Post, N.Y., The Wineglass Marathon will present a check for $50,000 to the Village of Painted Post on Monday, July 13th at 7:00 p.m. during the Village of Painted Post Board Meeting in the Painted Post Village Hall. Mark Landin, Race Co-Director and Chris Sharkey, Wineglass Board Chairwoman, will be presenting.
The replacement of a near mile-long bike path that runs from Craig Park to a small walking bridge near the Interstate Highway 86 underpass tunnel is expected to begin mid-July. The current six-foot wide bike path will be removed and replaced with a new 10-foot wide path. Some of the signage along the bike path will be replaced and a stripe will be put down the middle of the new path. In addition to the generous contribution made by the Wineglass Marathon, this project is made possible by a grant from Empire State Development, in-kind support from the villages of Painted Post and Riverside and funding from Corning Enterprises. The upgrades to the bike path will be completed prior to the start of the 34th Annual Wineglass Marathon weekend scheduled for October 2-4, 2015.
The bike path is an integral part of the Wineglass Marathon helping keep runners safe by using the bike path. This year's Wineglass Marathon is set for Sunday, October 4th, with nearly 6,500 runners for both the Marathon and the Half-Marathon. While the new bike path will benefit Wineglass runners, it will be enjoyed by walkers, runners and cyclists in the community all year long.
