Wineglass Weekend is shaping up to be a busy time. Registration for the Corelle 5K on Saturday, October 3rd is outpacing last year and filled to nearly 80% capacity with little more than a week before the race. The Wineglass Full and Half Marathons have been sold out since April.

Sponsored by Corelle, the 5K is a warm-up race for Sunday's Wineglass races and has been a popular family event since its introduction in 2012. As part of the Corelle 5K, runners will pass by the Pressware factory where all the world's Corelle is made. Race organizers credit the Corelle sponsorship with the rising popularity. "Having the extra support from Corelle gives us the opportunity to give each finisher a medal as well as a long-sleeved cotton tee," said race co-director Sheila Sutton. Corelle is also enticing runners with a special run of its popular 28 ounce bowl with the Corelle 5K and Wineglass logos. The bowl is free to runners by showing their 5K bib at the Corningware, Corelle & More store on Pine St.

Organizers will limit the field to 800 for the October 3rd race. 600 runners have already registered with a little more than a week still remaining, well above the 462 runners who ran the course last year. "It's exciting that all three Wineglass races this weekend may sell out," said Sutton. "If you want to run with us on Oct. 3rd, you need to register now."

You can register for the Corelle 5K at www.wineglassmarathon.com with an entry fee of $30. The race starts at 8:30AM at Corning War Memorial Stadium.
